Amber is a fantastic material. 45 million years ago it was merely resin from pine trees in the Baltic area. Now it is a beautiful golden stone.
There are two kinds of amber. The first is called earth amber and is mined in Poland and Russia. The second kind can be found on the beaches of Denmark. It is called sea amber and is harder from having been in the salt water for ages.
Amber is light and soft compared to other stones. Though it is mainly known as golden, it actually comes in many colours.
